MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – The James Madison cross country team earned a fourth-place finish at the Spider Alumni Open hosted by Richmond at Pole Green Park Saturday morning.Â
JMU collected 103Â points in its fourth-place finish, which was 25Â points behind third-place Richmond. Virginia won the race after scoring just 22 points.
How It Happened
- The Dukes were paced by junior Miranda Stanhope with her ninth-place finish in the 4K with a time of 13:47.1.
- Following behind Stanhope was senior Laura Webb who crossed the finish line in 13:59.8 for 17th.
- Rounding out the scoring for JMU were freshman Gabriella Garcia (20th – 14:04.9), senior Jessica Cantrell (33rd – 14:26.3), and sophomore Sofia Terenziani (34th – 14:27.2).Â
Meet Notes
- All of the Dukes' scorers moved up in the race after the 2K split, with Webb making the biggest leap, going from 31st to 17th.
- Webb and Garcia both recorded a faster final 2K split, cutting their times by 7.20 and 1.10 seconds, respectively.Â
