NEW ORLEANS – James Madison quarterback Todd Centeiohas been named to the midseason watch list for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, as announced Tuesday evening by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.
This comes following Centeio being selected to the Davey O'Brien Great 8 List in week one, which recognizes exceptional play at the quarterback position each week in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
In JMU's season-opening 44-7 win versus Middle Tennessee, Centeio was 21-of-33 for 287 passing yards and a JMU-record six touchdowns. He also rushed for a career-high 110 yards to tally 397 yards of total offense.
Centeio is the first JMU quarterback to throw for six touchdowns while eclipsing 100 rushing yards in the same game and is the first FBS quarterback to do so since Louisville's Lamar Jackson in 2016.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O'Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.2 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
The award is named after the former TCU quarterback who in 1938 became the first player to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year.
With the addition of Centeio and five others this week, a total of 41 quarterbacks are currently on the midseason watch list.
