CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina knocked down 11-of-24 (45.8%) from three and 22-of-29 (75.9%) from the line to cruise past James Madison, 79-64, Thursday night at the HTC Center.
JMU falls to 17-4 (7-2 SBC), while the Chanticleers improve to 10-10 (5-4). CCU heads to Old Dominion next for a Saturday matchup at 2 p.m.

Kiki Jefferson paced the Dukes with 17 points, nine of which came in the final frame. Juniors
Kseniia Kozlova and
Steph Ouderkirk both chipped in with 10 points. Classmate
Jamia Hazell dished out four assists, while
Claire Neff and
Peyton McDaniel pulled down six rebounds.
How It Happened
- After making a jumper at jumper at the 6:15 mark, the Dukes failed to make a field goal for the rest of the period but took an 11-10 lead after one.
- The Chanticleers scored 21 points in the second quarter, 10 of which came at the line.
- Hazell and Kozlova combined for nine in the frame, but James Madison found itself trailing 31-24 at the intermission.
- Despite a 20-point third-quarter effort from JMU, Coastal knocked down four triples in the frame for a 54-44 lead heading into the fourth.
- The Chanticleers continued to coast as their advantage grew to 18, 75-57, with just over two minutes to play. Coastal Carolina earned the home victory, 79-64.
Game Notes
- JMU still leads the all-time series 2-1.
- The 15-point loss is the biggest defeat for James Madison in the 2022-23 campaign.
- Seventy-nine points tied for the most points allowed by the Dukes this season. Previously, Troy scored 79 at JMU, however, the Dukes came out on top with the 80-79 home win on Jan. 21.
- The Chanticleers' 11 three-pointers are the most against JMU this year and the second time a team has reached double figures in the category. App State hit 10 in Harrisonburg earlier in the season on Jan. 12.
- Conversely, the Dukes shot 5-of-23 (21.7%) from behind the arc, the third-worst clip for the team in 2022-23.
- James Madison recorded just seven assists against Coastal, the second-lowest mark of the season.
- Ouderkirk reached double-digits in scoring for the second time this season with 10 points.
- The Dukes had more points off turnovers (15-13), bench points (20-18), and points in the paint (28-20).
