HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Senior guard
Kiki Jefferson registered her fifth double-double of the season (11 points, 13 rebounds) to help push James Madison over Marshall, 74-67, in Sun Belt Conference women's basketball action Thursday night inside the Cam Henderson Center.
JMU (13-2, 3-0 Sun Belt) has won 10 straight games and is 7-0 on the road this season. The Thundering Herd (9-5, 2-1 Sun Belt) look to bounce back when they host Georgia Southern on Jan. 7.
Besides Jefferson, three other Dukes scored in double figures: juniors
Kseniia Kozlova (17),
Jamia Hazell (14), and
Peyton McDaniel (13). For Hazell, her 14 points tied a season-high on 6-of-12 (50.0%) from the field. Graduate student
Caroline Germond dished out a team-best four assists and recorded a season-high three steals. Junior
Claire Neff had a great night passing as well with a career-high three assists. Jefferson grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and swatted a pair of Marshall shots.
How It Happened
- James Madison was stifled early on, committing five turnovers in the opening frame.
- Hazell and junior Annalicia Goodman both recorded blocks in the first quarter as the Thundering Herd led 17-13.
- Classmate Steph Ouderkirk gave JMU a much-needed spark with a pair of triples at the beginning of the second quarter.
- The Dukes held Marshall to 1-of-8 (12.5%) from deep in the second period, helping give James Madison a 33-30 edge at the intermission.
- JMU came out strong, outscoring the Thundering Herd 8-2, highlighted by a quick 6-0 run.
- Hazell and McDaniel combined for 14 points in the third to make it 56-44 Dukes.
- The Thundering Herd cut the deficit to two points, 64-62, at the 3:50 mark of the fourth quarter.
- James Madison pulled away thanks to a late run and held Marshall scoreless for over a three-minute-long stretch.
- The Dukes held on for a 74-67, knocking down 10-of-13 (76.9%) down the stretch.

- JMU leads the all-time series against Marshall 6-1 and will face the Thundering Herd again on Friday, Feb. 24 in Harrisonburg.
- Jefferson's double-double was not just her fifth this season, but 16th of her career.
- James Madison pulled down 43 rebounds, the 11th time the team has accumulated 40+ in 2022-23.
- Germond finished with four assists, the eighth consecutive game she has dished out three or more assists.
- The Dukes outscored Marshall 40-28 in the paint.
- JMU recorded five blocks, tied for the second-best performance for the team this season.
- Additionally, with 11 points, Jefferson now has 1,485 career points. That point total trails former Duke Shanna Price (1999-03), who is 10th on JMU's all-time scoring list with 1,496.
- Ouderkirk knocked down two big three-pointers in the second quarter, giving her a season-high eight total points in the first half.
- The last time the Dukes had a winning streak of 10 or more in a single season was 13 straight in 2018-19. That season, James Madison won every game between Jan. 20 through March 9 before falling to Hofstra, 57-50, in the CAA Quarterfinals on March 14.
