HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison senior defensive end Jalen Green was selected as the College Football Network Defensive Player of the Week for week five of the college football season, the organization announced.
Green had the most prolific game of his JMU career in the Dukes' 31-23 win Saturday against Sun Belt Conference foe South Alabama.
The Baltimore native had had career highs of 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, as well as returning his second career interception 24 yards for a touchdown – the first defensive score of his career.
Green is second in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 11.0 tackles for loss and is tied for second with 6.5 sacks. Both numbers through five games this season are higher than his career totals entering the 2023 campaign.
JMU (5-0, 2-0 Sun Belt) is off this week and returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 when it hosts Georgia Southern at Bridgeforth Stadium. Kickoff time and network designation are both TBA and will be announced later on Monday.
