HARRISONBURG, Va. – A pair of James Madison football standouts were honored nationally following their performance in Thursday's win at Marshall, as Jalen Green was named College Football Network Defensive Player of the Week and Ryan Hanson was tabbed Co-Special Teams Player of the Week.
Green tied the JMU single-game record with 5.0 sacks in JMU's 20-9 win Thursday at Marshall. He had six total tackles and a career-high 5.5 tackles for loss. It was the first five-sack performance in the FBS in nearly three years and just the seventh over the past decade. Green currently leads the country with 13.0 sacks and 18.0 tackles for loss.
Hanson had a career night on special teams, pinning all seven of his punts inside the 20. Averaging 40.4 yards per punt, six of his seven were downed inside the 10 and three were stopped at the one. The best starting field position Marshall had after a Hanson punt was its own 11 and the Herd averaged its own 16 for the entire game.
In addition to Green and Hanson, Jailin Walker was named to the CFN Week 8 Team of the Week. Joining them with Second Team honors were Jamree Kromahand Aiden Fisher while D'Angelo Ponds was a Third Team member and Carter Miller claimed honorable mention status.
JMU, which is one of nine unbeatens remaining at 7-0, is back home on Saturday, Oct. 28 when it hosts Old Dominion at Bridgeforth Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
