HARRISONBURG, Va. – The James Madison men's basketball team was ranked 24th by the AP Top 25 men's college basketball rankings, released Monday afternoon.
Â
This is the first time in program history that JMU has been ranked on the national poll.
Â
The Dukes are one of only 13 teams in the nation with a 3-0 record, having won against significant opponents, including #4 Michigan State and Kent State on the road, and Howard at home. This stretch of games was the strongest aomngst Sun Belt Conference teams to start the season and ranked at the top of the pack in the country as well. These three teams collectively won 71 games last season and each made an NCAA appearance.
Â
The Spartans and Head Coach Tom Izzo had not lost a home game in November since 1986, while Kent State and Head Coach Rob Senderoff had not lost a home game in 23-straight contests before JMU came to town.
Â
The win over #4 Michigan State was the biggest upset in program history, and only the second time the Dukes had beaten a ranked team (first, 11/29/1992 vs. #19 Cal).
Â
JMU collected 91 points in the AP Top 25. It's the most points James Madison has ever received in the poll.
Â
The 24th-ranked Dukes return to action on Friday, Nov. 17, when they host Radford at the Atlantic Union Bank Center. The matchup is set for a 7 p.m. start and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
