HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison baseball head coach
Marlin Ikenberry announced on Thursday afternoon the addition of Tanner Montgomery as the program's Director of Baseball Operations.

"Tanner has seen college athletics through many different lenses," said Ikenberry. "First as a son of a coach, then a player, a coach and now as a director of ops. We are very excited to add him to our staff and JMU baseball family."

Montgomery comes to JMU after serving the past season as a volunteer assistant coach at nearby Bridgewater College. While at Bridgewater, he assisted in recruiting during the summer and assisted with scouting reports while also serving as the primary coach working with the catchers. In addition, he assisted working with the hitters.

Before taking on the volunteer assistant coach role at Bridgwater, Montgomery had played the previous three seasons for the Eagles as a catcher. He earned ODAC All-Academic Team honors after the 2020 season and was on the baseball program's leadership council during his tenure. Prior to Bridgewater, the Akron, Ohio native began his collegiate career at Youngstown State where he played at from 2017-19.

He holds an undergraduate and graduate degree from Bridgewater, earning his bachelor's in health and exercise science in 2021 and a master's in human resource management the following May.
