D’Angelo Ponds Takes Home Freshman All-America Accolades

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison cornerback D'Angelo Ponds was recognized on the On3 True Freshman All-America Team, the organization announced this week.
Ponds is the first JMU player to earn FBS Freshman All-America status after a stellar rookie campaign, in which he started nine of 12 games during the regular season.
A Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, Ponds ranks tied for first in the conference and tied for fourth nationally with 13 pass breakups. He's also second in the SBC and seventh in the FBS in total passes defended, at 15.
Ponds finished the regular season with 50 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, 13 breakups and a pair of interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
The West Park, Fla., native was also JMU's first semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award.
