Jalen Green Wins 2023 Bill Dudley Award, Top Player in Commonwealth

RICHMOND, Va. – James Madison senior defensive end Jalen Greencemented his name as the best in the state, as he was announced as the winner of the 2023 Bill Dudley Award on Saturday night from WTVR CBS 6 studios in Richmond.

The Dudley Award, now in its 34th year, is presented annually to the Commonwealth of Virginia's best college football player competing at the Division I level (FBS or FCS).

Green is the first Dudley Award recipient since Bryan Schor took home the hardware in 2016. He is also the program's sixth all-time winner of the accolade.

He is the first defensive player to win the Dudley Award since Virginia's Micah Kiser in 2017. Green is also the first defensive end to take home the trophy since 2007 when UVA's Chris Long was the recipient.

The Baltimore native leads the nation in sacks per game (1.72) and tackles for loss per game (2.3). Named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, he broke the conference's single-season sacks record in just nine games. He tallied 50 total tackles, 21.0 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one pick-six and a pass breakup.

He was named College Football Network National Player, Defensive Player and Defensive Lineman of the Year and was selected as a First Team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation and CFN. He was also a Second Team All-American by CBS Sports/247 Sports.
