- Following a 3-1 road trip, James Madison men's basketball returns to the Atlantic Union Bank Center for a rivalry matchup with Old Dominion on Thursday. The Dukes and Monarchs are set to tip off at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
- JMU's win at Coastal Carolina on Saturday kept the Dukes in the top four of the Sun Belt Conference standings, one game ahead of ODU and Troy. Following Thursday's ODU matchup, JMU will battle a pair of squads in the top four in Louisiana and Marshall.
- All four games on the road trip were decided by single digits, making six of JMU's last eight contests decided by nine or less. The Dukes are 5-1 in those single-digit decisions, going 4-1 in games decided by two possessions or less.
- The Dukes are led on the scoresheet by Terrence Edwards with 12.7 points per game, with the redshirt sophomore putting up at least a dozen in 10 straight games. Vado Morse follows closely behind with 12.4ppg.
- JMU's offense has produced at least four double-digit scorers in 19 of 27 games, including each of their last four. The Dukes have a 16-3 record when at least four players put up 10 or more and are 7-1 in these games.
- After doing so just once in its first five conference games, JMU has scored 70 or more points in seven of its last nine.
- The Coastal Carolina matchup marked the 13th time in 14 games that the Dukes have made more free throws than their SBC opponents. The sole league opponent to make more this season was the Monarchs on Feb. 2 (12-10).
- Redshirt sophomore Tyree Ihenacho dished six assists in both games last weekend, leading JMU in both contests. The twelve assists in two games tied his most across a two-game stretch in his JMU career, as he did so Feb. 10 and 12 of last season.
- Mezie Offurum, who grabbed a season-high 10 boards on Saturday, has brought down at least six in 14 different games this season.
SCOUTING THE MONARCHS
- Like JMU, Old Dominion has won five of six and has surged into a tie for fifth place in the Sun Belt standings. ODU's lone loss in that stretch was the 78-73 defeat to the Dukes in Norfolk on Feb. 2.
- Each of ODU's last five wins have been by two possessions or less and four of have been by one possession.
- Tyreek Scott-Grayson leads the Monarchs with 14.4 points per game, but was held to 10 by the Dukes in the first matchup.
- The Monarchs hold opponents to the second-lowest field goal percentage in league games, allowing just a 40.7% clip.
SERIES HISTORY
- JMU is going for its first-ever four-game win streak in the series. having won three in a row on just three different occasions.
- The Dukes have 20 of their 29 wins in the series at home, winning two of the last three matchups in Harrisonburg.
- Each of JMU's victories in its current three-game win streak over ODU have been by five points or fewer.
