JMU Picks up First Win against Saint Francis

Elon, N.C. - James Madison softball opened the Elon Softball Phoenix Invitational with its first win of the 2023 campaign on Friday evening, rolling to a 10-2 run-rule victory over Saint Francis.
James Madison advances to 1-2 overall while Saint Francis moves to 2-3 on its season.
Graduate student Hannah Shifflett had an impressive day at the plate, going 2-2 with a home run and a triple. Shifflett also added an RBI and two walks.
Junior Alissa Humphrey entered the game in the circle for Lexi Rogers in the first inning, recording eight strikeouts and yielding just one walk, no hits and no runs.
The Dukes got on the board first, scoring four runs in the opening inning off of three errors before Saint Francis chalked up its only two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
After adding a run in the second on Shifflett's homer, the Dukes broke things open in the fourth inning with five runs on six hits, including a two-RBI triple from graduate student Hallie Hall, who went 2-3 with two runs.
Sophomore Kylee Gleason, sophomore Jasmine Hall, freshman Bella Henzler and sophomore Lexi Rogers also added hits in the contest.
The Dukes are back in action on Saturday at the Elon Softball Phoenix Invitational, starting their day against Fordham at 2:30 p.m.
