TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – James Madison put together a seven-run ninth inning, but it wasn't enough to take down Florida State in the season-opening weekend finale Sunday afternoon as the Dukes fell, 17-10, in non-conference baseball at Dick Howser Stadium.

The Dukes fall to 0-3 to open up the season, while the Seminoles stand at 3-0.

Redshirt freshman
T.R. Williams started on the mound for the Dukes, making his collegiate debut, as he went two-plus innings and gave up five runs on six hits. Redshirt junior
Jacob Steinberg led the team at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a run scored, a double and three RBI's.

Jamie Arnold earned the win for Florida State on the mound, starting for the Noles and going two and two-thirds innings and giving up three runs and three hits with a pair of strikeouts.

How It Happened
First Inning
Florida State got on the board first, as Jaime Ferrer doubled down the left line to score one but was thrown out at third to end the inning trying to extend the hit into a triple.

Second Inning
The hosts added a pair of runs for a 3-0 lead. After an infield single and hit by pitch put two on, Colton Vincent rocketed a double to right field to bring both runners home.

Third inning
Sophomore
Jason Schiavone led off the inning with a double off the left field wall and was brought home the next at bat by freshman
Mike Mancini, hitting his own double and then going to third on a fielding error. Mancini scored the next at bat as sophomore
Coleman Calabrese grounded out to shortstop to make it 3-2. Two batters later, redshirt junior
Mason Dunaway hit the third double of the inning and came home to score the tying third run on graduate
Jaylon Lee's single.

The Seminoles immediately responded, with a solo shot to lead off the home half of the inning. They then added three more runs on a two-run double and a single to lead 7-3.

Fourth Inning
Three runs were added to the scoreboard for Florida State, all with two outs. James Tibbs III homered to center field and Jordan Carrion roped a two-run triple for a 10-3 lead.

Fifth Inning
With two outs and two on, Tibbs tripled to right field to bring the two runners home. A wide throw trying to nab Tibbs at third allowed him to score as well for a total of three runs and extended the lead for the home team to 13-3.

Sixth Inning
In the sixth, Florida State opened the inning with a double and a walk before bringing both runs in on a triple off the right field wall to make it 15-3.

Eighth Inning
Florida State began the inning with a walk before Titan Kamaka took the third pitch he saw over the left field wall for a 17-3 FSU lead.

Ninth Inning
The Dukes made a valiant comeback effort in the ninth, scoring seven runs in the inning. The visitors scored runs on a range of plays, using an RBI groundout, an infield single, a bases loaded walk and then a Florida State fielding error to score the first four runs. Steinberg capped the inning off with a bases clearing double to score three more runs to bring the score to 17-10.

The Dukes return to the diamond on Tuesday, Feb. 21 to begin a 10-game home stand at Veterans Memorial Park. JMU will host George Mason at 3 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
