HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison baseball fell in its series opener with South Alabama, 19-3, on Friday afternoon in Sun Belt Conference action after weather caused a two-hour delay at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Dukes fall to 15-10, 2-3 SBC while the Jaguars move to 11-15, 2-5 SBC.

Sophomore Todd Mozoki started and went a career-high tying five innings, striking out a career-high five while giving up four runs. Freshman Wyatt Peifer led the Dukes at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort, scoring a run and knocking in one.

Sam Knowlton started and went three-and-two-third innings to earn his second win of the season.

How It Happened
Third Inning
South Alabama struck first with three runs, scoring on a passed ball before using a bases loaded walk followed by a groundout to score 3-0.

Fourth Inning
The Jaguars added another run on a walk drawn with the bases loaded to extend their lead to four.

Sixth Inning
A seven spot was put on the board as USA batted around, with only two of the seven runs earned. A throwing error by JMU allowed a run to score and was followed by a run scoring wild pitch and a two-run homer. South Alabama added an RBI double and a two-run single for an 11-0 lead.

JMU got two runs back as freshmen Wyatt Peifer and Aidan McDonald used back-to-back run scoring singles to make it 11-2.

Seventh Inning
A grand slam was hit by Colson Lawrence to increase the lead to 15-2.

Ninth Inning
The second grand slam of the evening by USA was hit to make it 19-2.

Sophomore Fenwick Trimble doubled in graduate Jack Cone to score a third run for the hosts.

Up Next
The Dukes and Jaguars meet for the middle game of the series on Saturday, April 1 at Veterans Memorial Park for a 4 p.m. start.
