IRVING, Texas – James Madison lacrosse marked a pair of selections among the American Athletic Conference weekly awards, as senior
Lilly Boswell was named the Midfielder of the Week and redshirt senior
Mairead Durkin grabbed Defensive Player of the Week honors from the league on Monday.
Â
Boswell earned JMU's first midfield honor of the season while Durkin grabbed her second Defensive Player of the Week selection.
Â
In a Sunday win against Cincinnati, Boswell scored three goals on a .500 shooting percentage to mark her second career hat trick. Her hat trick was part of a team offensive performance that featured four hat tricks and a .459 shooting percentage, as the Dukes eclipsed 16 goals for the fourth consecutive game.
Â
For the season, Boswell has 11 goals and has put 75.0% of her shots on goal. She has also contributed 12 ground balls and eight caused turnovers defensively.
Â
Durkin, the league leader in caused turnovers, tied a season high with four against Cincinnati, three coming in the second quarter alone. She added four ground balls and one draw control for a total of nine hustle stats on the afternoon.
Â
As a defensive unit, JMU held the Bearcats to eight goals and 18 total shots, the 12th time this season an opponent has been held to single-digit goals and the sixth time below 20 shots. Durkin was effective in the eight-meter game, as Cincinnati was held to 0-for-5 from the free position, the third opponent to fail to score a free-position goal this season.
Â
The fourth-ranked Dukes collected a 17-8 victory on Senior Day at Sentara Park to improve to 14-1 with its program-best-tying 14th consecutive win. JMU clinched at least a share of The American regular season title with Sunday's victory.
Â
The Dukes (14-1, 5-0) are set to wrap up their non-conference schedule this weekend with a Sunday trip to Piscataway, N.J. to face Rutgers. First draw is set for 1 p.m. on B1G+.
