MADISON, Miss. - The James Madison men's golf team closed out its first Sun Belt Championship on Wednesday afternoon, tying for eighth place to wrap up play at the par-72, 7,190-yard Annandale Golf Club.
The Dukes carded rounds of 294-291-301 on the week, climbing one spot on the 14-team leaderboard on a difficult final day to tie Texas State in the final standings. No. 26 Georgia Southern, South Alabama, Troy and Louisiana finished in the top four and advanced to Thursday's match play.
In his first collegiate conference championship, freshman
Owen Kose led the way for the Dukes, tying for 12th among 65 players after shooting 73-70-74 (+1). The performance put him just one shot out of the top 10 and five out of the top five.
Sophomore
Daniel Cheng and freshman
Václav Tichý tied for 29th, just six shots behind Kose. Cheng carded 71-77-75 on his week, while Tichý posted 73-73-77. Senior
Nick Schlickenrieder was just one shot behind the pair in a tie for 33rd, shooting 77-72-75 to close out a fantastic career with the Dukes.
Sophomore
Kyle Kushnir played the first two rounds for the Dukes, shooting 77 and 76, while junior
Alexandre D'Aurelle de Paladines carded a final-round 82.
