HARRISONBURG, Va. – The diamond edition of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge began with the James Madison baseball offense coming alive for a 25-6 win over Old Dominion to start the weekend series on Friday evening at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Dukes won their fourth straight and improved to 28-20, 13-10 Sun Belt Conference while the Monarchs dropped to 30-19, 13-12 SBC. It is the first win in the all-time series with JMU as the home team since March 26, 2011.

Redshirt junior
CJ Czerwinski earned his third win of the season behind three innings of relief and a career-high nine strikeouts. Sophomore
Coleman Calabrese led the Dukes at the plate by going 3-for-5, a homer shy of the cycle, with a walk, two runs scored and a career-high five RBI's.

How It Happened
Second Inning
JMU began the offensive showcase with five runs in the second inning. After the first three batters all reached base, a walk was drawn by freshman
Jack Cannizzaro to bring the first run across. The Dukes then scored on the next three at bats, using a bases loaded error and single to score two and then scored another two on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.

Third Inning
Old Dominion led off the third with a triple and then got on the board with a groundout in the next at bat. The game was made a 5-2 score on an RBI single from Alex Bouche three batters later.

The Dukes got the two runs back and scored a third in the home half of the inning, using an ODU fielding error to score the first run. Calabrese then hit his third triple of the season two batters later to score two and give the Dukes an 8-3 lead.

Fourth Inning
The offense of JMU had an uptick in business in the fourth, scoring eight runs to double their run output. Sophomore
Fenwick Trimble got it started with a two-run shot for his 13
th long ball of the season. Redshirt senior
Kyle Novak then had a run scoring double to make the score 11-3. After a walk, sophomore
Ryan Dooley singled in a pair but was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double. After two Dukes joined Cannizzaro on base, redshirt junior
Mason Dunaway double in two more runs before Trimble knocked in his third run of the inning on a groundout to put the hosts out front 16-3.

Fifth Inning
The Monarchs were able to respond back with three runs on two doubles to chip into the lead 16-5.

A one-out double from graduate
Jack Cone set up Dunaway to single into center field to score a run in and make it 17-5 for JMU.

Eighth Inning
The Dukes loaded the bases with one out before freshman
Mike Mancini reached on a fielder's choice to score a run and make it 18-5. JMU then loaded the bases with two outs and a throwing error allowed two runs to score and the inning to continue. Three base hits from Cannizzaro, Calabrese and Cone would knock in an additional five runs for a 25-5 lead.

ODU made it a 25-6 game with a sacrifice fly in the last frame.

Game Notes
- Coleman Calabrese's third triple of the season gave the Dukes a pair of hitters with at least three triples in the same season for the first time since 2016.
- The 25 runs are tied for the most ever in the all-time series. JMU scored 25 on April 6, 1975 in the second ever meeting. The two instances of 25 runs given up by ODU are the most in its program history.
- Every Duke who had an at bat scored a run.
- Fenwick Trimble is up to 52 RBI's and 68 hits on the season. It is the most RBI's in a season since 2013 and the most hits since 2014.
- The Dukes' pitching staff struck out 16 batters, the most this season and the most since 20 punchouts on May 5, 2019.
- Five Dukes scored three or more runs and the same number knocked in three or more runs. Only Jack Cannizzaro did both.
