GREENWOOD, Ind. – Five James Madison student-athletes were selected to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team in lacrosse's
Lizzy Fox and
Katelyn Morgan, women's golf's
Kate Owens and field hockey's
Diede Remijnse and
Eveline Zwager.
This is the second such honor for Remijnse, who earned the accolade last year, while Fox, Morgan, Owens and Zwager take home the award for the first time in their respective careers.
Fox graduated from JMU last year with a bachelor's degree in health sciences while holding a 3.507 grade-point average and has a 4.0 while studying cyber intelligence in post-grad. This past season, she was voted Second Team All-American Athletic Conference after scoring 19 goals with two assists. She also added 15 ground balls and eight caused turnovers in the midfield. For her career, she concludes her time at JMU with 65 goals and 20 assists for 85 points. She also tallied 94 ground balls, 68 caused turnovers and 44 draw controls, with her ground-ball total ranking 17th all-time at JMU.
Morgan, a junior starter for the lacrosse program, boasts a 4.0 GPA while studying general psychology at JMU. On the field, she was selected as a Second Team All-AAC honoree after registering 21 goals and 35 assists for 56 points. She led the Dukes in assists, was third in points and fourth in goals. Her assists total in 2023 ranked tied for seventh in JMU single-season history, and she already ranks seventh all-time for the Dukes with 71 career helpers. In 57 career games, she has 126 points, adding in 55 goals.
Owens, who has consistently been one of the leaders in the golf team's lineup has a 3.942 cumulative GPA as she just graduated from JMU with a bachelor's degree in business management. On the course, she was a two-time all-conference honoree, earning Second Team All-Colonial Athletic Association laurels in 2019 and 2022. This spring, she racked up three straight top-10 finishes in JMU's first season in the Sun Belt. Owens holds single-season program records with rounds of par or better (14) and birdies (88), both set in 2021-22. She has also led the team in scoring twice, both in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
Remijnse graduated from JMU this spring with a degree in international business after holding a solid 3.966 GPA entering her final term. She is a two-time NFHCA Second Team All-South Region selection (2021, 2022) and earned First Team All-CAA honors in 2021. A four-year starter for the Dukes, she concluded her career this past fall by scoring 10 goals, ranking tied for first on the team in scores and second in points (20). In her 62 career games (61 starts), Remijnse tallied 21 goals and one assist. She had a breakout year in 2021, tallying 11 goals with a helper for her 23 points.
Zwager just earned her degree in health sciences at JMU after tallying a 3.888 GPA entering her final semester in Harrisonburg. A two-time NFHCA Third Team All-American and three-time All-Region selection, Zwager was also a two-time CAA Player of the Year in 2020 and 2021. This past fall, Zwager led the Dukes with 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points. She concluded her career with 35 total goals and 19 assists for 89 career points after starting 57 of 59 games in her four years.
These five Dukes will advance to the Academic All-America® ballot, which will be unveiled by the CSC on June 22, 2023.
