LOUISVILLE – James Madison cut the deficit to two, 3-1, late in the third quarter but could not capitalize on late scoring opportunities, falling to No. 4 Louisville 4-1 on Friday night at Trager Stadium.

JMU slips to 2-6, dropping five consecutive matches for the first time since 2004. The Cardinals improve to 7-1 and travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Senior Mia Julian was the Dukes' lone scorer, finding the back of the net with a helper from sophomore Lila Harlock. Senior goalkeeper Brandelynn Heinbaugh started in cage before junior Katie Fricke took over for the remaining 35 minutes of the game, as the duo combined for three saves.

UofL's Emilia Kaczmarczyk registered a pair of goals in the win, while Chloe and Aimee Plumb each added one. Louisville netminder Merlijn van der Vegt swatted away two shots, facing five in 60 minutes of action.

How It Happened

The Cardinals got on the board first midway through the opening frame, executing on a penalty corner with a goal from Chloe Plumb.
A scramble in front of the net resulted in a score from Aimee Plumb to make 2-0 at the 13:17 mark of the second quarter.
Kaczmarczyk tacked on a goal with a reverse shot halfway through the second frame.
James Madison responded with under six minutes to go in the third as Harlock found Julian to make it a 3-1 game.
Kaczmarczyk recorded her second goal of the day early in the final period on a penalty corner situation with assists from Aimee Plumb and Tatum Kroon.
The Dukes found themselves with a two-person advantage in the final five minutes but failed to get a shot off as the No. 4 Cardinals came away with the 4-1 victory.

Game Notes

Louisville leads the all-time series, 7-2, coming out on top in seven straight matchups.
UofL held the advantage in shots (10-5), shots on goal (7-3) and penalty corners (6-3).
Julian's goal at the 5:53 mark of the third was JMU's first goal since scoring in the second quarter versus Temple on Sept. 10. Moreover, the drought lasted 139:23 of action.
Julian paces points (nine) and is tied for team lead in goals (three) with senior Tori Carawan, while Harlock's assist was the first point of her career.
Fricke's 35 minutes in cage set a career high. Additionally, with two stops at Louisville and four versus Boston College, the junior has made saves in consecutive games for the first time in her career.
