Â
A Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team selection for the 2023-24 season, he has played a pivotal role in the team's impressive 14-1 start to the season. The swingman from Atlanta has garnered attention with his exceptional performances. In addition to being named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week twice, he has also earned national player of the week accolades.

In 15 games, Edwards Jr. has led the Dukes in scoring, averaging 17.1 points per game. Notably, he has recorded five 20-point efforts. One of those 20-point performances came in a remarkable 24-point contribution in JMU's thrilling 79-76 overtime victory against No.4 Michigan State. This outstanding display earned him the Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week, Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, and Associated Press National Player of the Week honors. Edwards and teammate
T.J. Bickerstaff were also both named to the mid-season watch list for the Lou Henson Player of the Year Award this week.

The Lute Olson Award is named in honor of Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson, who won 776 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997. Â In 2002, Olson was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Â
The recipient of the Lute Olson Award will be determined by a 10-member voting committee, composed of current and former head coaches, as well as senior staff members of CollegeInsider.com. The 2024 award announcement is scheduled to be in Phoenix, Ariz., at the site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.Â
