Sproles, Stephens Named to CSC Academic All-District Football Team

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison's Phoenix Sproles and Tyler Stephens were each named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Football Team, as announced by the organization.

The Academic All-District® Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. This is the first such honor for each student-athlete.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or primary reserve who holds at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average both in undergraduate and graduate programs. The players must also have played in at least 90% of games or started in two-thirds.

Sproles capped off his career making 52 receptions for 442 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He turned in his two most prolific games for the Dukes in his final two outings. He made a career-high 11 catches for 99 yards in JMU's regular-season finale at Coastal Carolina. Sproles followed that up in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl with five grabs for 55 yards and two touchdowns.

Stephens started all 13 games as a junior on the offensive line and did so at three different positions due to injuries. A three-year starter, he began the season with four games at left guard. He played the next four at right tackle before starting the final five contests at left tackle.

Both were named to the 2023 All-Sun Belt Conference Team, as Stephens was a Second Team honoree, while Sproles was an Honorable Mention selection.
