HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison field hockey Head Coach Christy Morgan announced Morgan DeMann as the program's new associate head coach Thursday afternoon.
Â
DeMann joins the staff after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Bates College. This past season, she helped guide the No. 7 Bobcats to its first NCAA tournament appearance, advancing to the second round.
Â
"I'm super excited to have Morgan join my staff," said Head Coach Christy Morgan. "She brings experience, knowledge, and most of all, positive energy. She respects the people that she leads and coaches with great compassion. I love her commitment to everyday growth, good energy and doing the work to create champions. She has hit the ground running!"
Â
The 2023 campaign saw Bates post a 9-0 home record, match the program record of 13 wins and win a program-best seven games against NESCAC competition, including the first win in a conference tournament game in team history.
Â
In addition to her work with field hockey, DeMann served as an assistant strength & condition coach, creating programs for other varsity teams, including women's soccer and men's and women's nordic programs.
Â
Other field hockey ventures include working for the WNY Field Hockey Club out of Binghamton, N.Y., coaching all ages at every position with a focus on goalie development. Additionally, DeMann has served as a coach for the Nexus Field Hockey program in New York and New Hampshire where she has observed and evaluated athletes.
Â
Prior to Bates, DeMann was a defender for the Liberty Flames from 2011-13. She graduated from Liberty in December 2013 with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies.
