CONWAY, S.C. – It took 13 innings to decide the rubber match between James Madison baseball and No. 16 Coastal Carolina, but a walk-off double from the Chanticleers was the decider to down the Dukes, 11-10, on Sunday afternoon at Springs Brooks Stadium.

The Dukes dropped to 13-7, 1-2 SBC while the Chanticleers ended their season-opening 20-game homestand 17-3, 2-1 SBC.

Junior Jason Schiavone led JMU at the plate, recording his first career three-hit game as he went 3-for-4 with a homer, two walks, three runs scored and three RBI's. Classmate Todd Mozoki got the start on the mound and went three innings and struck out two while allowing three runs.

How It Happened
Third Inning
Redshirt senior Jacob Steinberg led off the third inning by taking a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall for his first long ball of the season. After a pair of runners reached and were moved over by a sacrifice bunt, junior Fenwick Trimble knocked another run in on a groundout to give JMU a 2-0 lead.

Coastal took a run back on a run scoring single after Corey Zientek led off with a single and stole second ahead of scoring.

Fourth Inning
Junior Coleman Calabrese hit the 33^rd home run over the 20-foot Springs Brooks Stadium batter's eye to give JMU a 3-1 lead.

Back-to-back homers to lead off the home half of the fourth tied the game at three for CCU.

Sixth Inning
JMU's third homer of the season regained the lead, as redshirt senior Mason Dunaway homered to left to make it 4-3. A single from Steinberg to score Calabrese, who doubled after Dunaway's homer, made the score 5-3.

Eighth Inning
Junior Jason Schiavone gave the Dukes a three-run lead with a single to score Dunaway who led off the inning with a double, making it 6-3 JMU.

Ninth Inning
The Chanticleers fought back and scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extras. They loaded the bases and scored the first run on a sacrifice fly. After a wild pitch put both runners in scoring position, Caden Bodine hit a single to score both and tie the game at six.

11^th Inning
Schiavone gave the Dukes the lead back, homering for the fourth time this season after a leadoff walk for another two-run lead at 8-6.

Once again, Coastal loaded the bases and brought two runs in to tie the game. The first run came on a hit by pitch with the second on a sacrifice fly.

13^th Inning
Freshman Kyle Langley, who stayed on to hit after pinch running in the 11^th inning, led off with a double and came around to score on a single from sophomore Wyatt Peifer. A walk drawn from Schiavone preceded Peifer's single, and allowed the Dukes to load the bases from an intentional walk before junior Ryan Dooley made the score 10-8 with a sacrifice fly.

Coastal put the first two runners on in the bottom of the inning and after a sacrifice bunt and lineout, Zack Beach was walked intentionally to load the bases with two down. A defensive replacement in right field, Chad Born hit a bases clearing double on a 3-2 count for a walk-off 11-10 victory.

Game Notes

JMU put the leadoff runner on in all four extra innings.
The last walk-off loss suffered by the Dukes was at App State on April 30 last season.
The game last four hours and 40 minutes.
Donovan Burke tossed 5.1 innings of relief, bridging the fourth to ninth innings. He struck out two and allowed three runs.
The 13 inning contest is the longest the Dukes have played since facing off against Northeastern at home on March 25, 2016 and going 19 innings.
