DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2024 Division I Men's Basketball All-ECAC Teams and major award winners, with
Terrence Edwards Jr. voted Player of the Year and All-ECAC First Team, whileÂ
Mark Byington was voted Coach of the Year.
Â
The honors come following the program's best season in history – recording 32 wins, capturing the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Championship and advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Championship.
Â
Edwards, the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, averaged 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game in his redshirt junior campaign. The Atlantia, Ga. finished the season with 618 points, the fifth-most in a single season in JMU history. The guard is also a finalist for the Lute Olson National Player of the Year and Lou Henson National Player of the Year awards.
Â
Byington led the Dukes to a 32-4 overall record to smash the program's previous record of 24 and helped JMU win its fifth conference title in program history and first since claiming the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association crown.
Â
The Dukes opened the season with a win at No. 4 Michigan State and went undefeated in non-conference play at 13-0, earning the program's first AP Top 25 ranking and climbing to as high as No. 18 in the national poll. In addition to Edwards' accolades,Â
T.J. Bickerstaff was named Newcomer of the Year, while
Noah Freidel was Most Outstanding Player of the SBC Championship.
