Phil Steele Honors 11 Dukes on Preseason All-Conference Squad

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison had 11 student-athletes honored on the 2024 Phil Steele Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Football Team, which was highlighted by punter Ryan Hanson taking home first-team accolades.

Hanson was joined by four Second Team honorees in running back Ayo Adeyi, defensive lineman Eric O'Neill, linebacker Jacob Dobbs and cornerback Chauncey Logan.

Taking home Third Team laurels were receiver Cam Ross, offensive linemen Cole Potts and Pat McMurtrie and long snapper Logan Ketcham, while quarterback Dylan Morris and linebacker Taurus Jones garnered Fourth Team awards.

Hanson has been named Preseason First Team All-SBC by both Phil Steele and Athlon Sports. It's also the second preseason honor for Adeyi, Dobbs, Logan, Ross, Potts, Morris and Jones, who were each honored by Athlon.

Nine of the 12 Dukes have received postseason all-conference honors previously, including Sun Belt awards for Hanson, Jones and Logan. Hanson was a 2023 Second Team All-Sun Belt selection and a 2021 Third Team awardee. Jones was also named Third Team in 2022, while Logan was Honorable Mention in 2023.

Last season, Adeyi was Second Team All-American Athletic Conference at North Texas, while Dobbs rounded out his Holy Cross career as a four-time All-Patriot League honoree, including three First Team laurels. His teammate, McMurtrie, was also a 2021 and 2023 Second Team All-Patriot League member.

O'Neill was a two-time First Team All-Northeast Conference selection at LIU and joined Dobbs as a finalist for the Stats Perform Buck Buchanan Award for FCS national defensive player of the year. Ketcham was a 2023 All-Bay Six Conference linebacker while at Laney College, and Morris was a 2020 Honorable Mention All-Pac 12 honoree while starting at Washington.

The official preseason all-conference team from the Sun Belt Conference will be unveiled by the league ahead of Sun Belt Media Days, which takes place July 23-24 in New Orleans.
