HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Athletics released two new logos intended to retroactively celebrate its first two national champions, the 1994 field hockey team and 2004 football team.
Â
The first two titles occurred in eras prior to licensed marks such as were later developed for the 2016 football and 2018 lacrosse national championships. JMU Athletics sought consistency for all four teams to have retail opportunity with officially licensed marks.
Â
The logos were intentionally designed in coordination with the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) to fit with design practices of the era and incorporate the official JMU Athletics marks of the corresponding year.
Â
The logo launches align with anniversaries for each accomplishment. The 2004 football team will be inducted into the JMU Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 6 and celebrated at the Sept. 7 football home opener. While football marks its 20-year anniversary, field hockey celebrates 30 years since achieving the university's first NCAA national title in any sport, with the accomplishment scheduled to be recognized at the Oct. 11 home game.
Â
The marks will be available to all licensed retail vendors alongside the full portfolio of JMU Athletics marks.
