Quoting Head Coach Joshua Walters, Sr.
"I couldn't think of a better birthday gift than a performance like that. I was also really happy we could get that win for Rob who was back playing against East Carolina for the first time since he left as the winningest head coach in ECU history. They are a fantastic team which caused us to up our level in the second half. The girls answered the call. Then Ginny showed her quality with an absolute blast for the first goal! So proud of all the girls today for executing something we don't normally do."

- ECU tested DeCerb again early in the second period, taking a shot in the 49th minute that she saved in the bottom center of the net.
- In the 65th minute, Lackey took off dribbling from just outside the center circle and fired a lefty rocket past the ECU goalie for the first score.
- The Duke offense started to flow following the goal, with Lackey and Verrecchia each taking a shot in the 68th and 75th minute.
- Lackey kept the pressure up, intercepting a pass from the ECU goalie that she took herself for the second score of the match in the 79th minute to make it 2-0 JMU.
