FORT WORTH, Texas – James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett III was selected to the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 for Week 8 of the college football season after accounting for nearly 450 yards and six scores in the Dukes' Homecoming victory against Old Dominion.
By virtue of his weekly honor, Barnett has been added to the midseason watch list for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, marking the second consecutive season he's been on the list.
In JMU's 63-27 win over ODU on Oct. 18, Barnett found the end zone six times and combined for 448 yards of total offense after going 17 of 25 for a season-high 295 passing yards and two touchdowns while rushing for career highs of 153 yards and four touchdowns.
The four rushing scores were tied for third most in JMU single-season history and the most by a Duke since 1999.
Trailing 27-21 late in the second quarter, Barnett and the JMU offense reeled off 42 unanswered points to remain unbeaten in Sun Belt Conference play, at 4-0, and clinched bowl eligibility with a 6-1 overall record.
This is the third time Barnett has been named to the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8, as he also garnered the accolade on Sept. 23 and 30 during the 2024 season.
