LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a record-setting weekend against Georgia Southern, James Madison outside hitter
Kennedy Louisell has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Â
In an honor that has been awarded weekly since 1993, Louisell's recognition is the first in the history of the James Madison volleyball program and the first from a non-power conference in Division I Women's Volleyball this season.
Â
Louisell continues to lead the country with 455 kills and is second nationally with an average of 5.29 kills per set. Last Saturday, she became the only player in Division I Women's Volleyball with at least 35 kills and 20 digs in a match, finishing with 38 kills and 20 digs against Georgia Southern.
Â
Across two matches against the Eagles, Louisell totaled 57 kills (5.70 per set) and 34 digs (3.40 per set).
Â
This season, Louisell has nine double-doubles, 10 matches with at least 20 kills, and two with 30 or more. Her 455 kills place her fifth on the JMU single-season kills list, 13 behind Janey Goodman's 468 kills in 2015 for fourth and 26 from tying Dana Jones (481) in 2002.
Â
The Dukes return to action with a pair of road matches at South Alabama on Oct. 30-31. Both matches will stream on ESPN+.
