LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the second straight week, James Madison running back Wayne Knight earned recognition on the Paul Hornung Weekly Honor Roll, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Â
The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, is now in its 16th season and is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football.
Â
Following a career-high 199 all-purpose yards performance on Sept. 27 against Georgia Southern, Knight was a key part in the Dukes' 14-7 victory at Georgia State on Oct. 4.
Â
He rushed for 85 yards on 13 carries with the go-ahead touchdown with 9:50 remaining in the game. He also averaged 6.5 yards per rush, with a long of 22 yards, which put the Dukes in the red zone to set up their first score of the contest in the third quarter.
Â
The redshirt junior also caught three passes for 10 yards and averaged 12.5 yards on four punt returns to total 145 all-purpose yards on 20 total touches.
Â
In five starts, the Smyrna, Del., product leads JMU with 426 rushing yards and is second only to Alonza Barnett III in rushing scores, with four. His rushing total ranks fifth amongst rushers in the Sun Belt Conference, and his all-purpose numbers have him seventh in the country across all Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players.
Â
Knight is also the first player in program history to be named to the Honor Roll in back-to-back weeks.
Â
A national selection committee comprised of 17 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Paul Hornung Award winner. A fan vote makes up the 18th vote to help decide the winner.

Â
Knight and the Dukes will return to Bridgeforth Stadium for the program's first contest against Louisiana on Saturday, Oct.11, which kicks off at noon and will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
