FOLEY, Ala. – After remaining tied at one after double overtime, No.5 James Madison women's soccer fell 5-4 in penalties to No.4 Texas State in the Sun Belt Quarterfinals on Monday night at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex in Foley, Ala.
The Dukes finish 9-5-5 (5-2-3 SBC) as the Bobcats move to 9-3-6 (5-1-4 SBC).
Audrey Orrock scored the Dukes' lone goal during regulation, her sixth of the season. Senior
Jordan Yang added her third assist of the year on the score. Victoria Meza netted Texas State's only goal in regulation.
Sofia DeCerb made her tenth start of the year and spent all 110 minutes of play in between the posts, registering a save.
How it Happened
- The Dukes had their first opportunity in the eighth minute; however, Lackey's shot went wide.
- Texas State's first shot in the 13th minute was off target.
- After nearly ten minutes without either team registering a shot, Victoria Meza managed to put one into the back of the net to put the Bobcats ahead, 1-0, in the 33rd minute.
- Aleigha Arndt delivered the first shot of the second half, an attempt in the 52nd minute that was wide.
- After being awarded a free kick opportunity in the 56th minute, Arndt fired a shot that was blocked.
- Texas State unleashed a pair of shots in the 61st minute that were blocked and off target.
- The Dukes equalized in the 73rd minute after Orrock headed in a delivery from Yang to make the score 1-1.
- Lackey found a chance in the 92nd minute but sent her shot wide.
- The Bobcats broke free in the 99th minute; however, Meza's shot was saved.
- After receiving a free kick in the 103rd minute, Helen Alormenu attempted a header in the six-yard box that flew high.
- As the seconds were winding down in the 110th minute, Alormenu sent a shot that missed just high.
- After each team made their first four penalty tries, the Bobcats capitalized on a JMU miss to advance 5-4 on penalty kicks.
