HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison defensive end Sahir West was recognized as a First Team Freshman All-American from The Athletic, the organization announced.
West, voted the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year and a Second Team All-Sun Belt selection, is fresh off his best game of 2025 to help lead JMU to a win in the Sun Belt Football Championship.
The Baltimore native has started all 13 games this season at defensive end after redshirting a season ago.
He's made 43 tackles with team bests of 14.0 tackles for loss and 7.0 sacks while also contributing a forced fumble and four pass breakups. His 2025 campaign was highlighted by his play in the conference championship, where he made career highs of 10 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and a forced fumble which resulted in a JMU touchdown.
West enters the postseason ranking second in the conference in tackles for loss (14.0) and third in total sacks (7.0).
