LEXINGTON, Ky. – James Madison junior outside hitter
Kennedy Louisell was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Region team, the organization announced on Tuesday morning.
Â
Louisell – the 2025 Sun Belt Player of the Year – is the ninth different player in JMU program history to be named to an All-Region team and first since Sophie Davis in 2023. Along with being named the SBC Player of the Year, Louisell became the first player in program history to be named the AVCA National Player of the Week, doing so on Oct. 28.Â
Â
A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Louisell finished the season with 605 kills – the most for a JMU player in the program's Division I era (1986-present). She finished with an average of 4.80 kills per set, breaking Janey Goodman's previous record of 4.64. She had double-digit kills in all 31 matches, which included 13 matches with 20 or more and two with 30 or more.Â
Â
Along with her single-season accomplishments, Louisell had two matches with 35 or more kills, totaling 37 against Georgia State on Oct 4 and 38 against Georgia Southern on Oct. 25. Both marks broke program records. She finished the regular season ranking No. 2 in NCAA Division I Women's volleyball in kills (605), second in total points (676.0), and eighth in kills per set (4.80).Â
Â
Louisell also led the Dukes with 39 service aces and accumulated 274 digs (2.17 per set) and 58.0 blocks, playing all rotations. Â
