Dukes Rally Back for 4-3 Road Win at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – James Madison reeled off four singles victories, including a pair of three setters to rally past Davidson, 4-3, in men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Davidson Tennis Courts.

JMU (2-3) found itself down 2-0 after dropping the doubles point and falling on court four before mounting its comeback on four of the final five courts. JMU earned wins on the top three courts and court six to upend Davidson (5-5)

Esteve Agusti got JMU on the board on court two, earning a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Juan Perez Gongoro. Francisco Sinopoli evened things up on court three, as he fended off Davide Procacci, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

JMU took the lead for the first time on court one, as Aurelien Schmitt overcame a second-set tiebreak loss to pull away from Uddayvir Singh, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-4.

Davidson knotted things up at 3-3 when Nico Pinzon won a tiebreak in the second to outlast Dennis Wiebe, 6-2, 7-6 (3).

With the match on the line and up a set on court six, Markus Giersiepen trailed Nikhil Mukerjee 3-1 in the second before rattling off four straight to take a 5-3 lead. Mukerjee won two straight to make it 5-5, before Giersiepen broke the Wildcat to get back on serve. In the ensuing game, Giersiepen finished it off, winning the match by scores by 6-3, 7-5.

The win ended a seven-match losing skid in matches played outside of Harrisonburg.

JMU is back in action on Sunday, Feb. 23 at Queens in Charlotte with an 11 a.m. start.
