Dukes Finish Resumed Game, Fall in Series to No. 21 Coastal Carolina

The Dukes dropped to 13-30 overall and 6-14 in Sun Belt Conference action, while the Chants won their eighth straight conference game to improve to 32-11 overall and 16-4 in league play.
Junior Wyatt Peifer had a career day in game one, connecting on a career-high four hits (4-for-5) while adding a homer and two RBIs. Classmate Max Kuhle also had a career day in the opener, going seven scoreless innings to set a new career-high.
How It Happened
Coastal Carolina 9, JMU 1 (11 Innings)
A pitching duel emerged between JMU's Kuhle and CCU's Jacob Morrison, as each tossed seven innings prior to weather suspending the game ahead of the eighth inning began. The lone mistake made was a 2-0 pitch from Morrison that Peifer put over the left field wall in the fourth to give JMU a 1-0 lead.
Kuhle's seven innings set a career-high, as he scattered five hits and struck out seven batters with no walks.
Coastal tied the game on a two-out solo shot in the ninth to force extras, eventually scoring eight in the 11th inning to take a 9-1 lead.
Peifer connected on his career-high fourth hit of the game in the bottom of the 11th, knocking in a run on a single to make it 9-2.
Coastal Carolina 14, JMU 4 (7 Innings)
The Chants got out to an early 8-0 lead, scoring three runs in the first inning and another five in the second inning.
Sophomore Kyle Langley connected for his second homer of the season, a two-run shot that got the Dukes on the board in the third inning to make the score 8-2.
A five-run inning was the response from CCU in the fourth. Freshman Jack Anderson made it 13-3 as he doubled in classmate Reece Moody in the home half of the inning.
Senior Ryan Dooley added a run for the Dukes in the fifth on a sacrifice fly, but Coastal established its 10-run lead with a run-scoring single in the seventh to make it 14-4.

The series finale is scheduled for tomorrow, April 27 at Veterans Memorial Park with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
