KANSAS CITY, Mo. – James Madison men's and women's soccer received the College Team Academic Award for the 2024-25 academic year, United Soccer Coaches announced on Friday.
The award is given to all teams who have a composite GPA of at least 3.0 across the entire academic year. A total of 697 soccer team across men's and women's programs received the award for this year. This year sees an increase in recipients from the 471 programs honored in 2023-24. JMU is one of 151 schools with both their men's and women's programs honored. This is the first time that both programs have been honored in the same season since the 2022-23 academic year.
The men's team achieved a GPA of 3.20 for the 2024-25 academic year. In the fall, the Dukes had two players named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. In the spring, the men's program saw another selection to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Academic All-State Team, which recognizes the top scholars from every collegiate institution in Virginia.
The women's program is receiving the award for a second straight year, earning the honor with a 3.42 overall GPA. It is the fifth time in the six seasons the team has earned the award, and the 14th time overall. Individually, the Dukes had three players on the College Sports Communicators Division I Academic All-District Team in the fall.
The men's soccer team will open their season against the Fordham Rams at Sentara Park on Thursday, August 21. The women's team will begin their season on the road at NC State on Thursday, August 14, before returning to Sentara Park to take on the Liberty Flames on the 17th.
