Dukes Close Out Third Day at American Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Maddie O'Mera finished sixth in the 3-meter board championship final to lead the way for James Madison swimming & diving as it closed out the third day of the 2026 American Championship on Friday inside the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The Dukes remained in sixth place with 535 points with Rice maintaining its lead with 976.5 points.

Prelims

Three Dukes advanced to the finals in the 100 Back, as freshman Maria Costa finished 16^th with a time of 55.40. Seniors Jamie Cornwell (55.51) and Sarah Pauley (55.61) respectively finished 18^th and 20^th.
Junior Riley Bridgman swam a time of 1:02.53 to finish 10^th in the 100 Breast, joined by freshmen Emma Dougherty (17^th, 1:03.64) and Lily Moore (24^th, 1:06.35).
Sophomore Maddy Coombs claimed ninth place in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:01.87.
O'Mera and redshirt junior Natalie Jones moved the finals, finishing seventh and 10^th respectively in prelims with scores of 277.70 and 272.25.

Finals

To begin the night session, the team of sophomore Madison Wimmer, senior Alex Volk, senior Riley Nugent and Cornwell finished sixth in the 800 Free Relay with a time of 7:21.41.
Costa finished fifth in the B Final with a time of 55.44. Pauley (56.04) took fourth in the C Final, while Cornwell took seventh (56.52).
In the B Final for the 100 Breast, Bridgman finished fourth with a time of 1:02.68. Dougherty swam a time of 1:03.62 in the C Final to finish fourth, while Moore finished eighth with a time of 1:06.29.
Coombs was edged out for second place in the B Final of the 200 Fly, swimming a personal-best time of 2:00.90. She remained in fifth place in program history.
On the 3-meter board, O'Mera finished sixth with a score of 291.95. In the consolation final, Jones finished sixth with a score of 258.20.

The Dukes will conclude their stay inside the Greensboro Aquatic Center tomorrow, Feb. 21 as the American Championship concludes. Prelims will begin at 10:30 a.m. with finals set for 6 p.m., featuring the 1650 Free, 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 400 Free Relay and platform diving.
