BOONE, N.C. – James Madison fell in its women's tennis regular-season finale, dropping a 4-1 decision to App State on Friday afternoon at the App State Tennis Courts.
The Mountaineers (11-10, 3-2 Sun Belt) claimed the bout after taking a pair of doubles courts and winning three singles matches in straight sets.
For the Dukes (11-10, 0-3 Sun Belt),
Ariel Avidan was the lone JMU player to record a victory, as she rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Allegra Hodson on court four.
App took the early 1-0 lead after registering a 6-1 win on court three and a 6-3 triumph on court one.
Savannah Dada-Mascoll, ranked 12th nationally in singles, gave the hosts a 2-0 lead on court one, where she upended
Daria Munteanu, 6-2, 6-0.
After Avidan got JMU on the board with her straight-set win, the Mountaineers closed the day with victories on courts three and five. Taya Powell earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over
Brooklyn Hoffmann, before Ruby Broadbent downed
Sophie Williams by the same score.
JMU turns its attention to the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championship, which takes place April 22-26 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga. The seedings and full bracket will be announced by the Sun Belt on Monday.
