RICHMOND, Va. – Rising James Madison men's tennis junior
Damian Sancilio Sierra claimed the men's doubles title at the Mercedes-Benz Greater Richmond Open on Friday evening at Salisbury Country Club.
Teaming with Stephen Faraci, the field's second-seeded duo went 4-0 with all four triumphs coming in straight sets.
The two opened play with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory against Avi Soin and Tyler Geldreich in the round of 16. The next three rounds saw the two win four of six sets in tiebreak fashion.
In the quarters, they defeated Karson Crosthwaite and Cole LaFors, 7-6 (2), 6-2. The semifinal was the closest result of the tournament, as they slipped past fourth-seeded Drew Campbell and Jeremy New by scores of 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4).
The tandem captured the title with a 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory over top-seeded Rishi Charan Shankar and Evan Fisher.
On the singles side,
Zach Fleishman reached the men's title bout, going 4-1 on the week. Sancilio also went 1-1, reaching the round of 16.
