Each student working in our department will have the opportunity to see the process of what goes on before, during, and after sporting and special events.

Internships & Practicum opportunities are available in the following time frames:
Fall Semester: August - December
Spring Semester: January - June
Summer: May - August
Available Positions:
Facilities Practicum - Spring Semester (up to 4 positions)
- Set-up/Teardown for athletic and special events as needed
- Assist Facilities Coordinator with general upkeep and maintenance of assigned facility
- Learn and participate in the behind-the-scenes operations of collegiate sports and special events
- Engage and provide excellent customer service with those you interact with including but not limited to: coaches, players, staff and fans
Spring Semester (up to 2 positions)
Godwin/Tennis Internship Description:
- Act as the primary “Facility Manager” for all Men & Women’s Tennis matches
- Set-up/Teardown all tennis matches as needed at East Campus Tennis Courts & Hillside Tennis Courts
- Ensure Windscreen, Court dividers, Court surfaces, nets, and all other pieces of equipment used at the facilities are managed and upkept accordingly
- Assist Facilities Coordinator with assigned duties
- Set-up/Teardown from athletic events, meetings, special events, and any other activities occurring within the facility
- Arrive to your scheduled shift on time and work through the duration of your shift
Sentara/Lacrosse Internship Description:
- Act as the primary “Facility Manager” for all women’s lacrosse games and be the main point of contact throughout the season
- Setup/Teardown all Lacrosse games and other athletics events as needed at Sentara Park
- Keep track of equipment inventory at all 3 practice fields
- Monitor and assist with field painting
- Work with coaches and team managers/other departments on practice and game day needs
- Attend preseason and operations meetings for lacrosse
- Assist in facility projects and maintenance across facility
- Must be willing to adapt & be flexible as duties change often
Facilities Practicum - Summer (1 position)
- Assist with day-to-day operations of athletic facilities including but not limited to: daily inspection of facilities; reporting & following up on damages and incidents that occur; enforce observance of facility operating policies and procedures
- Float between all athletic facilities on campus as needed
- Participate in some administrative duties
Facilities Practicum - Fall Semester (up to 4 positions)
- Set-up/Teardown for athletic and special events as needed
- Assist Facilities Coordinator with general upkeep and maintenance of assigned facility
- Learn and participate in the behind-the-scenes operations of collegiate sports and special events
- Engage and provide excellent customer service with those you interact with including but not limited to: coaches, players, staff and fans
Fall Semester (up to 2 positions)
Bridgeforth/Football Internship Description:
- Act as the lead to student employees during football games and special events
- Must work at least one (1) shift per each home football game
- Assist Facilities Coordinator with assigned duties on a day-to-day basis
- Set-up/Teardown from athletic events, meetings, special events, and any other activities occurring within the facility
- Arrive to your scheduled shift on time and work through the duration of your shift
Bridgeforth/Football Internship Description:
- Act as the primary “Facility Manager” for all Men’s and Women’s Soccer and be the main point of contact throughout the season
- Setup/Teardown all Soccer games and other athletics events as needed at Sentara Park
- Keep track of equipment inventory at all 3 practice fields
- Monitor and assist with field painting
- Work with coaches and team managers/other departments on practice and game day needs
- Attend preseason and operations meetings for soccer
- Assist in facility projects and maintenance across facility
- Must be willing to adapt & be flexible as duties change often
