As a senior: VaSID Second Team All-State... Spring 2009 JMU President's List... NFHCA National Academic Squad... CAA Commissioner's Academic Award... JMU Athletic Director Scholar-Athlete... started in all 21 games this season... contributed to JMU recording 11 shutouts for the season, second-most in program history... helped the Dukes finish first in the nation in goals against average and shutouts per game.
As a junior: ZAG/NFHCA National Academic Squad... CAA Commissioner's Academic Award... Spring 2008 JMU President's List... one goal in season opening 7-0 shutout against Georgetown... one goal in 7-0 shutout over Richmond... started in 21 games.
As a sophomore: CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award... JMU Athletic Director Scholar Athlete... earned a starting spot for the eighth match of the season and started all but one the rest of the way, sitting briefly on senior day... only shot of the season came in the first match during a 3-1 win at Kent State.
As a freshman: NFHCA National Academic Squad... Conference (CAA) Commissioner's Academic Award... played in three games for the season.
High school: All-district as a junior and senior. All-tournament team at the Herndon Invitational as a senior. School's Coach’s Award as a senior. Lake Braddock was state and Northern Region runner up 2002 and Patriot District champion 2001, 2002, 2003. Her Lake Braddock club team was Washington Area Capital Summer League champion 2004. Her Virginia Express Futures team won its tournament pool at the National Festival 2005. Also ran track, and was all-state, all-region and all-district as sophomore, junior and senior. Track team captain and team's outstanding track performance award as a senior. Field events MVP at the Allen Johnson Invitational as a senior. Participated in Penn Relays and National Scholastic Indoor Championships as a sophomore, junior and senior. Lake Braddock was state indoor track champion 2002 and runner-up 2005. The Bruins were indoor region champions 2003, 2004, 2005 and district champions 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005. Recipient of "Donna de Varona Spirit of Sport" award from Fairfax County Women's Sports Foundation for outstanding achievement in women's sports (2004-05) and 2005 Lake Braddock Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Award, for character, leadership, and athleticism displayed in sports at the school. National Honor Society.

Getting to know Jenny...
Why did you choose JMU? I thought it would be a great opportunity to play for the JMU field hockey program and would challenge me academically. The campus appealed to me when I visited it for the first time; and the two hours between JMU and my home is a perfect distance.
What is your major and why did you choose it? My major is elementary education. I’ve always liked being around and working with children.
What do you enjoy most about JMU field hockey? Playing together and winning as a team.
What are your goals for this year? To win CAA’s for the second year in a row and to go onto win NCAA’s.
What is your favorite pre-game music or ritual? I like to listen to rap music on my IPOD to pump me up.
Who is the silliest/goofiest person on the team? Mallory Counihan
Who motivates you and why? My parents. They support me at every game.
What are your favorite things about JMU? The people, there are lots of things to do, and the field hockey program.
What is your favorite place at JMU? My favorite place on campus in the Athletic Performance Center.
What influenced you to play field hockey? I’ve played sports all of my life and have always loved field hockey so I couldn’t imagine not playing in college.
Do you have a nickname within the team? Sometimes they call me Clay because my last name is pronounced the same way as Clay Aiken's from American Idol.
Which is your favorite team to play against? I like playing against UNC on their turf. They’re great competition and I love Chapel Hill.
What can’t you live without? My stuffed animal and my blanket that I sleep with.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I like some country music.
What other hobbies and/or activities do you enjoy? The past four summers I’ve worked at a rec camp for rising 1st through rising 4th grade. I love playing basketball and I also like to listen to different kinds of music.
