Alex Higgins was hired as a graduate assistant with the JMU football program prior to the 2021 season. He serves as an offensive GA in 2022, primarily working with the offensive line.
In his first season in 2021, Higgins was a defensive GA who worked with the defensive line. In his role as a GA, he creates scouting reports, breaks down opponents and self-scout, assists in drawing scout cards and helps the offensive staff with game planning. While with the defensive line, he helped the defensive coaching staff with game planning.
Prior to JMU, Higgins spent two seasons at Guilford College (2019-20). He was tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach in his first season before transitioning to running backs coach, co-special teams coordinator and director of football operations in his second year.
His career began at his alma mater, Elon, where he was a student assistant in spring 2019 drills and a football operations intern during the summer of 2018. Higgins was a four year starter for the Phoenix (2015-18), starting 39 of his 41 career games.
Higgins graduated from Elon in 2019 with a bachelor of science in business administration, majoring in entrepreneurship with a minor in psychology. He is currently pursuing a master's of science in sport and recreation leadership at JMU.
