Alex Loytty is in his first season with the James Madison football program in 2026, as he serves as a special teams analyst.
Loytty joined the Dukes after spending four seasons on Billy Napier’s staff at Florida (2022-25) as a special teams quality control coach. In that role, he worked with all players on special teams development and understanding of technique, schemes and rules.
Over his time in Gainesville, Florida had one of the top punting units in America from 2022 to 2024, led by All-SEC punter Jeremy Crawshaw. UF ranked fourth nationally and first in the SEC in 2022 in net punting (43.39) while coming in fourth in 2023 (43.26) and 11th in 2024 (42.37). Crawshaw averaged 45.8 yards per punt in 2024 and would get invited to the NFL Combine before being drafted in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos.
Elsewhere on special teams, Florida blocked four total kicks over his time with the Gators and also ranked sixth in kick return defense in 2023 (15.07) and 18th in punt return average in 2024 (13.36).
Prior to beginning his professional career, Loytty was a student assistant at his alma mater LSU (2020-21) and East Carolina (2018). He was part of LSU’s 2021 team that qualified for the Texas Bowl.
Loytty graduated from LSU in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management.
