Andrew Burkett was hired as the James Madison football program’s director of player personnel in August 2022, ahead of the Dukes’ inaugural FBS season.
In his role, Burkett’s primary roles include coordinating the daily prospective student-athlete recruiting operational and logistical processes for the program. He also plans and executes a 12-month vision of the recruiting calendar, which includes mail, video and graphics.
Burkett identifies, evaluates, collects and organizes data on PSA's to be distributed to Coach Cignetti and his staff. Additionally, he develops, implements and manages the film evaluation process for high school or transfer athletes while supervising the Director of Recruiting Operations.
He joined the JMU program after spending eight months at Florida as the director of recruiting, research and evaluation. Prior to his stint in Gainesville, Burkett spent four years (2017-21) on Billy Napier’s staff at Louisiana as director of evaluation.
Burkett also served as Arizona State’s player personnel intern for the spring and fall 2017 and began his career with Napier and Nick Saban at Alabama (2013-17), where he was a recruiting specialist while working with the wide receivers. While with Alabama, the Crimson Tide’s recruiting classes consistently ranked #1 and they won three SEC championships and a 2015 national title.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Alabama in 2016 and earned a master’s in sports business while in Tuscaloosa.
