Matt Transue, who was hired in January 2022 as JMU's Senior Director of Football Operations, serves the Department of Athletics as the Assistant A.D. for Football Administration.
After being a pivotal part in helping the program reclassify from the Football Championship Subdivision to the Football Bowl Subdivision as a member of the Sun Belt Conference, Transue transitioned into his current role as Assistant A.D. in 2024.
In this role, Transue serves as the sport supervisor for the football program and the liaison for the Director of Athletics and head football coach. Transue also becomes a member of the JMU Athletics senior staff and takes over football scheduling duties.

Entering 2025, Transue has nine years of full-time FBS experience having served as director of football operations at Georgia Southern (2021) and six seasons in various roles at Virginia Tech (2016-21).
Prior to his role as senior director of football operations for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Transue joined the Dukes after working as Director of Football Operations at Georgia Southern in 2021. In that role, he oversaw the daily administrative and operational duties within the GSU football program, handled team travel and other responsibilities to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Prior to his work with the Eagles, Transue spent five years in Blacksburg with the Virginia Tech football program. He was assistant director of football operations from 2017-21, which included a stint in 2019 as interim director. He began his time at VT as assistant director of player personnel & recruiting from 2016-17.

He was responsible for assisting the day-to-day operations of the Hokies’ football operation and recruiting departments and served as director of pro scouting, coordinating NFL personnel visits and VT’s annual Pro Day. Transue also assisted with graphic design for the program’s social media channels.
Transue was also a recruiting volunteer at Memphis during the 2015 football season and worked as an account executive for the Memphis Redbirds, the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

A native of Brentwood, Calif., Transue graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s in sports management in 2013 and a master’s in sports management in 2014. He served as a student assistant and later graduate assistant in football recruiting and operations from 2010-15.
He and his wife Amy were married in July 2019 and they have a son, Noah, who was born in July of 2021, and a daughter, Grace, who was born in April 2024.
