Ryland Powell was hired as the JMU Director of On-Campus Recruiting on July 1, 2022.
Â
In this role, Powell is responsible for all official and unofficial visits to the James Madison University campus. She also oversees the transition and on-boarding process for new incoming student-athletes and works alongside compliance to keep forms and databases up to date.
Â
Powell is no stranger to the JMU football program, as she’s been with the program since the 2019 season.
Â
Most recently, she served as the on-campus recruiting coordinator for the 2021 season. Similar to her current role with the Dukes, this position organized official and unofficial visits, maintained recruiting profiles and compliance forms through ARMS and also managed and developed a team of recruiting and operations interns.
Â
She also held roles as a student assistant to the JMU’s Director of Football Operations and Recruiting Coordinator from 2019 to 2021 and was a student equipment manager for the 2020-21 campaign. Powell was also a strength & conditioning intern during the spring 2020 semester.
Â
Aside from her many roles with JMU football, Powell has worked with Student-Athlete Services as a student-athlete tutor since the spring of 2019.
Â
Powell graduated from JMU in 2021 with a bachelor of science in sport and recreation management with a general business minor. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in sport and recreation leadership with an expected graduation in 2023.
