Jeremy Spering joined the Dukes' staff as assistant coach in 2006 after serving as a volunteer assistant for two years.  The 2002 Slippery Rock graduate also has coaching experience as a volunteer assistant coach at Slippery Rock (2002-04) and as a high school head coach at Knoch Area (2003-04) and Slippery Rock Area (2001-03) high schools in Pennsylvania. His Slippery Rock high school team won the Mercer County Athletic Conference championship in 2002.  He also coached the Northern Steel Select youth soccer club in Butler from 1999-2004.  Spering was a two-year starter and three-year letterwinner on the Slippery Rock soccer team. He also lettered in soccer at Elmira College in 1997-98. He also trained with the Bolton Wanderers English Soccer Club in 1994 and the New Jersey Stallions professional soccer team from 1995-96.  He holds a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Slippery Rock and earned a master's degree in exercise physiology from JMU in May 2006. Spering also holds a national coaching license from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.  The Frenchtown, N.J., native earned all-state and all-conference honors at Delaware Valley Regional High School, where he was captain of the soccer team. He also participated in Olympic Development Program soccer.
