Devon Howard is currently the assistant director for athletics communications. In this role, she is the primary contact for women’s basketball, field hockey and men’s and women’s tennis. Along with being the primary contact for those sports, she develops and generates both written and video content for the athletics website including game recaps, video interviews and feature stories.
In addition to her direct sport responsibilities, Howard supervises all of the office’s paid student workers, interns, practicums and volunteers. Before accepting her current position, Howard was an athletics communications assistant and associate from 2012-2014 at JMU.
Prior to JMU, she was a media relations student assistant at Coastal Carolina University, where she wrote postgame stories and composed player biographies. She assisted with postgame interviews as well as organized game and event photographs. In 2011, Howard worked with the Charlotte Checkers as an intern before becoming an athletic communications graduate assistant at VCU.
Howard received a Bachelor of Science in recreation and sport management from Coastal Carolina in 2011 and a Master of Education in sport leadership from VCU in 2012.
