After arriving at James Madison in June of 2017, Emily Hurd was promoted to Director of Special Events & Donor Engagement in July of 2018 after a year with the Duke Club.
As director of special events and donor engagement, Hurd will oversee all Duke Club events, with an emphasis on cultivating, stewarding and increasing the donor base. She most recently served JMU as the assistant director of donor engagement and events. Prior to coming to Harrisonburg, Hurd spent a year and a half at Kent State, serving as the special projects assistant to the athletics director. She facilitated both internal and external operations of the department, ensuring efficiency of all units.

Before her stint at Kent State, Hurd worked in student-athlete academic services departments at both Florida State and West Virginia.

Hurd is a multiple-degree graduate of Penn State, where she was a Division I student-athlete on the women’s soccer team. She received her undergraduate degree in communications in 2013 and her master’s in higher education administration in 2014. Hurd was a four-year starter and a two-year team captain for the Nittany Lions. She led her team to four consecutive Big Ten championships and a runner-up finish in the 2012 NCAA Championship.
