Jamar Perry scored a game-high 22 points and hit on six free throws during the final 2:15 as JMU won its season-opener 77-64 over North Carolina Greensboro.
Perry had 13 second-half points and gave JMU a 70-58 lead by hitting on three free throws with 2:15 left. He added two more free throws with 1:29 to play and one with eight seconds left.
JMU built a 20-8 lead by the 11:43 mark of the first half and led 38-31 at halftime and by at least seven points throughout the second half. UNC Greensboro used a 6-1 scoring burst to get to within 65-58, but
Charlie Hatter hit on two free throws with 2:47 left and Perry his three at the 2:15 mark.
Dwayne Braxton added 11 points and
Tim Lyle 10 points and a then-career-high-tying nine rebounds for JMU. The Dukes shot 48.1 percent (25-52) from the field and 84.6 percent (22-26) from the foul line.
UNC Greensboro shot 40.4 percent from the field (19-47) and 88.9 percent from the foul line (24-27).
